Circles Of Rhythm - Logo Description

Designed to inspire and guide our vision: "Helping humanity live fully through rhythm".
The Circles of Rhythm logo is a powerful symbol representing a collective rhythm-based wellness ideology. At the heart of the logo is a red “fingerprint swirl,” which symbolizes the core teachings we can learn from the rhythms of life. These teachings are deeply rooted in the wisdom of the medicine wheel, nature, emotions, health, life and death, as well as the cycles of day and night and seasons. This central swirl serves as a reminder of the foundational knowledge that guides the community.

Surrounding the central swirl are multiple dots arranged in concentric circles. These dots represent the many individuals who are part of this community, each engaging in a dialogue together, using the common teachings of rhythms to foster a way of life that embraces healthy rhythms. The arrangement of these dots in circles highlights the inclusivity and diversity of the group, where everyone has a place and a voice.

The colors of the logo—Black, Red, Yellow, and White—are reminiscent of the North American Indigenous Medicine Wheel, a call to action that encourages all to engage in deep listening with global indigenous communities and ecosystems around the world. This color scheme underscores the importance of diversity within the community, promoting an environment where non-violent communication thrives, and where respectful disagreement is not only allowed but encouraged.

The logo embodies the principle that embracing dualities and differences of opinions strengthens the community, allowing for a rich tapestry of perspectives to coexist peacefully. Through this, the Circles of Rhythm community aims to create a supportive and dynamic space for personal and collective growth, centered around the wisdom of life’s rhythms.

Sarah Konelsky

ICDC Facilitator & Events Coordinator

Sarah Konelsky is a dedicated professional whose journey has evolved through various life seasons, from building a career to raising a family and navigating the complexities of elder care. With a personal experience of supporting a loved one with dementia, Sarah has balanced caregiving responsibilities while cultivating her professional growth. Her journey was further shaped by a realization that her own well-being needed attention amidst the demands of family life and challenging work environments.

Guided by the encouragement of mentors, Sarah sought opportunities that would bring lightness and renewal into her life. This exploration led her to community drum circles—a practice she initially added to a list of activities to explore. Despite some hesitation, Sarah eventually embraced the experience, finding joy, rejuvenation, and a sense of connection through rhythmic drumming. The lively and welcoming environment of the drum circle offered her a much-needed space to reconnect with herself and others, grounding her amidst life’s challenges.

Following the passing of her mother, Sarah deepened her engagement with the drumming community, participating in COR’s facilitator training retreat. This retreat not only sparked her curiosity about the physiological and emotional impact of drumming but also provided her with the opportunity to delve into the deeper meanings behind the rhythms and nonverbal communication in this heart-centered practice.

Today, Sarah serves as both a facilitator and a member of the Board of Directors for the COR Foundation. Her passion for personal growth and community connection drives her commitment to the Integrative Community Drum Circle, where she supports others in stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing new experiences. Sarah’s journey highlights the power of personal growth, the importance of connection, and the transformative energy of drumming.

Tink & xander

YYC Drum Circles - ICDC Facilitator Duo
Tink (aka Chris) and Xander (aka Don) are the passionate founders of YYC Drum Circles, bringing the healing power of integrative drum circles to their community at WRCA and across Alberta. With Tink’s discovery of the joy of drumming during a vacation in Maui and Xander’s extensive background as a professional drummer since the 1970s, their journey into the world of therapeutic rhythm began in earnest when they stumbled upon Circles of Rhythm in Inglewood, Calgary.

Their love for the communal and healing aspects of drum circles was solidified after participating in Julien Lepage’s sessions at Inglewood Community Hall, where they experienced the uplifting power of rhythm firsthand. Inspired by this, they both completed the ICDC Facilitator Program Levels 1 & 2, learning not just the art of drumming but also the importance of creating safe, kind, and welcoming spaces.

With a mission to inject “Vitamin Fun” into lives and combat the rising tide of anxiety, stress, and despair through music, Tink and Xander launched YYC Drum Circles in 2024. Their aim is to facilitate drum circles where individuals and organizations can experience mental and emotional healing through rhythm. They occasionally facilitate drum circles for Circles of Rhythm, spreading their passion for drum circle therapy further, believing deeply that this practice can help dissolve anger and promote well-being across communities.
