The Friday Night Drum Circle Is Taking a Break

A full circle of drummers gathered under the draped ceiling of Inglewood Community Hall at the Friday Night Drum Circle in Calgary

For many years, Friday nights in Calgary have had a heartbeat. It started the moment the first drum sounded at Inglewood Community Hall - a room full of strangers, regulars, kids, grandparents, and first-timers finding one rhythm together before the night was through.

So this is a hard one to write, and a warm one too: the Friday Night Drum Circle is taking a break. We are pausing our regular weekly events for now, and we may return to regular weekly gatherings in 2027.

Thank You for Every Friday

To everyone who walked through those doors in winter, and everyone who found us in summer at Drumming in the Park in North Glenmore Park by the Weaselhead - thank you. You showed up in snowstorms. You brought your friends, your families, and sometimes just your tired selves at the end of a long week. You picked up a drum, and together we made something none of us could have made alone.

We are grateful to have drummed all those summer evenings on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina, and the Iyaxe Nakoda Nations, and the homeland of the Metis Nation. That land, and that gathering of people from every walk of life, shaped what the circle became.

Want to Keep Drumming? Visit YYC Drum Circles

The best news is that Friday night drumming in Calgary carries on. Our friends at YYC Drum Circles, a community drum circle group established in 2024, have been hosting Friday evening drum circles from 7 to 9 pm at the very same Inglewood Community Hall, and they bring drum circles to organizations and individuals across Alberta. Check their events page for current dates before you head out. If you loved our Friday nights, you will feel right at home in their circle.

The Circle Is Resting, Not Gone

A drum circle never really ends - the rhythm just waits for the next downbeat. While our weekly events rest, everything else continues as normal: corporate team building, private groups and celebrations, festivals, and facilitator training are all running, and we would love to bring the circle to you.

If you want to book us, or just say hello, reach out through our booking form or contact page. And when the weekly circle returns, you will be the first to know.

Until then - keep a rhythm going, wherever you are. We will see you in the circle.

Circles of Rhythm programs are recreational and community wellness experiences - not therapy, counselling, or a regulated health service.
