ICDC Drum Kit

The instruments we trust to run a great Integrated Community Drum Circle - chosen over 25+ years of facilitation for durability, sound, and joy in every pair of hands.

#1ICDC in North America
Built for the circle

Why we recommend Remo drums

A community drum circle is hard on instruments - hundreds of hands, every skill level, moved in and out of vehicles and venues week after week. We recommend Remo because they hold up, and they sound beautiful doing it.

Built to last

Engineered for heavy use by children, youth, and "heavy hitters" alike - and for a life of loading in and out, week after week.

Professional sound

Rich, full, in-tune tone that carries a room and rewards a beginner's very first strike - the sound that makes a circle come alive.

Weathers the changes

Synthetic pre-tuned and tunable heads shrug off the swings in temperature and humidity that split traditional skins - reliable indoors or out.

Trusted since 1997

The gear we actually facilitate with. Circles of Rhythm is a Remo-endorsed artist and North America's #1 ICDC.

Dealer We supply Remo, Groove Master Percussion, LP, SELA and more - at prices below retail, quoted to your exact kit.
The ICDC method

How to build a balanced kit

A great circle is balanced, not just loud. The ICDC method builds a kit in thirds - then you adapt the mix to the people in the room.

Hand drums

Tubanos and djembes carry the core rhythms - the voices most participants play.

Frame drums

Buffalo and frame drums add deep, grounding bass tone that anchors the group.

Percussion

Shakers, bells, and wood add orchestral colour - but go easy: too much spice ruins the soup.

Anchor it all with one bass drum or a large 22" Buffalo frame drum to hold the foundation the circle locks into.

Adapt the mix to your group

For seniors, wheelchair users, and anyone with physical or cognitive limitations, lean into tubanos and tubolos played with soft mallets - they can be played seated without holding the drum between the legs like a djembe - plus small frame drums, shakers, and tambourines. Go light on djembes. For young children, keep it simple and playful. The instruments serve the people, never the other way around.

The catalogue

Every instrument we recommend

You don't need one of everything - you need the right mix for your group (see the balanced-kit guide above). Tap Add to my kit on anything that fits, set quantities below, and we'll quote it for you. No prices here on purpose - we beat retail and quote to your exact kit.
Most Remo and Groove Master drums come in many finishes and colourways - browse the full range at remo.com and gmpercussion.com, and we'll get you the look you want.

Kit planner

Not sure what to buy? Tell us your circle size.

We'll suggest a balanced kit from 25+ years of facilitation - the right spread of tubanos, djembes, frame drums, a bass, and percussion. Add it in one tap, then adjust anything you like.

Every player has a drum, with percussion added on top as extras.
Remo pre-tuned tubanos and Mondo djembes - our most popular choice.
These are starting points, not rules. Everything lands in your kit below, fully editable - and we'll fine-tune it with you when we quote.

    Beyond our catalogue

Instruments we love but don't carry

These aren't in our catalogue and we don't sell them - but over the years we've come to trust these makers for authentic, world, and sound-healing voices that enrich a circle. Explore their stores directly.

We have no affiliation with these makers and earn nothing from them - it's simply gear we've enjoyed. Prices and availability are theirs. (Our one partner offer is the I AM SOUND flute discount above.)

    Good to know

    Frequently asked questions

What drums do I need to run a drum circle?
Start with a spread of pitched hand drums the whole group can play - Remo Tubanos and Buffalo/Frame drums are our core recommendation - plus a bass drum to anchor the pulse and a basket of hand percussion (shakers, tambourines) so every participant has an instrument in seconds. Use the catalogue above to build the right mix for your group size.
    Why Remo drums specifically?
Durability, professional sound, and resistance to weather changes. Community circles are hard on instruments; Remo's synthetic pre-tuned and tunable heads hold their tuning through temperature and humidity swings, survive heavy use by all ages, and still sound rich and full. It's the gear we facilitate with ourselves.
Do you sell single drums or only kits?
We can supply single instruments, but this page is built to help you assemble a complete, balanced kit - which is where we add the most value and the best pricing. Add whatever you need and we'll quote it.
How does ordering and delivery work?
You order through Circles of Rhythm. We source from our suppliers, you pay us, and most orders are picked up in Calgary. For larger orders we can arrange direct delivery. Send your kit request and we'll confirm the details.
Is there a discount for ICDC trainees?
Yes. If you book an ICDC facilitator training with us, or have trained with us before, you receive special pricing on your kit. Just mention it in your quote request.
What are the I AM SOUND flutes and the promo code?
I AM SOUND makes beautiful sound-healing flutes. As their partner, we can offer you 20% off your entire order with code CIRCLESOFRHYTHM - you buy directly from them, and it supports Circles of Rhythm at no extra cost to you.

    How this page works

Circles of Rhythm is a dealer for the drum and percussion brands recommended here - we supply them directly, usually below retail, and earn a margin on what we sell. The I AM SOUND flute link is an affiliate link: if you buy using our code you receive 20% off, and we earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We only recommend gear we actually use and stand behind, and our recommendations are our honest opinion.
